Chris Valasek speaks at the 2015 Security of Things Forum in Cambridge, MA

Presenting at Security of Things Forum

Since 2014, The Security of Things Forum has distinguished itself with superb technical and strategic content focused on emerging security problems and solutions related to the Internet of Things. In our first four years, the SECoT Forum has presented leading security figures including:

  • Dan Geer, the Chief Information Security Officer of In-Q-Tel
  • Chris Valasek of Uber (now at GM Cruze), a noted expert in connected vehicle security
  • FTC Commissioner Julie Brill
  • Moxie Marlinspike, a noted expert on device security and self-described “Hillybilly Hacker”
  • Kevin Fu of the University of Michigan and head of the Archimedes Lab focused on medical device security

We’re looking for great speakers for our fifth Forum event, to be held June 19, 2018 in Boston, Massachusetts.

This year’s theme & what we’re looking for

Our theme for this year’s Security of Things Forum is “Partnering In Security.” As that suggests: we are particularly interested in presentations that have to do with how technologies and services can be brought together to secure (ideally) real-world Internet of Things deployments. Examples might be:

  • Efforts to address identity or communications security at scale
  • Tools, techniques and approaches for securely managing IoT endpoints at scale including identity, access, updates
  • Managing IoT risk to corporations and other public/private sector organizations
  • Hedging IoT risk in novel ways
  • Secure DEVOPS as a method for developing and deploying more secure connected products
  • Securing legacy infrastructure (think critical infrastructure) from modern threats
  • Securing IoT in the enterprise using a combination of existing and new tools, technologies, services, methods

Obviously, your presentation doesn’t necessarily have to touch on the partnering theme. Check out our YouTube channel, which has videos from past Forums for a sense of the kinds of talks and panels we host. Past talks at SECoT Forums have touched on topics such as:

  • Managing medical device security risk
  • An investor’s view on securing IoT
  • Mobile BYoD and IoT
  • Hardware insecurity in embedded systems
  • Device hacking and bug bounties
  • Presentations of newly discovered vulnerabilities in embedded devices
  • Software defined perimeter as a tool for securing IoT
  • Using ephemeral infrastructure to secure IoT deployments
